Although the Pasadena City College women's team's 14th placing at the CCCAA State Cross Country Championships wasn't as high it had hoped, two freshmen runners gave the Lancers reason to think next year could be a far better result.

Lancer Tansica Sunkamaneevongse (pictured, from Arcadia High, raced a time of 19 minutes, 22.9 seconds to take 35th overall over the Fresno Woodward Park, 3.1 mile course. She just edged her teammate Brenda Grate (Burbank Burroughs High), who took 36th at 19:23.03. Twenty-seven teams scored and 207 runners participated in the season-ending meet.

Sophomore Christina Shamirian finished in 74th at 19:54.84. Other PCC racers were sophomore Kailadnni Chavez (129th, 20:41.32), freshman Emely Garcia (130th, 20:41.68), freshman Ashley Medina (141st, 20:56.45), and first-year racer Edna Bailon (157th, 21:15.97).

In the last three seasons, the Lancers have finished in the top 15, including 10th in 2011.

MEN'S PLACE 2 AT STATE MEET

Sophomore PCC runner Brendan Greene took 83rd overall as the top men's runner at the 4-mile, CCCAA state meet Saturday. Greene ran a 21:47.10 time. The only other Lancer qualifier was freshman Ruben Torres, who was in 128th (22:28.84).

The PCC cross country teams are directed by head coach Armand Crespo.
