News: Women's Basketball Bench Gets To Shine In 52-Point Win Over Compton
The Pasadena City College women's basketball team got to show off its role players as the bench provided 51 points in the Lancers' 88-36 pounding over visiting El Camino College Compton Center Wednesday night. PCC improved to 15-5 overall and remain in second place in the South Coast Conference North Division at 4-1.
The game started 25 minutes late due to Compton's bus being tardy. The Tartars (2-15, 0-5) had six players available as PCC head coach Joe Peron used the 40 minutes to give significant playing time to players to the reserves.
While starting guard Kiara Phillips led the Lancers with 18 points (8-for-13 from the field), starring from the bench was sophomore forward Brandi DuBose, who scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Backup frosh guard Joelle Tucker added 10 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists.
The rest of the bench featured sophomore forward Averie-Alice Guzman with eight points, four rebounds and four assists, frosh forward Tyler Polk scoring seven points and distributing four assists, freshman center Bailey Williams adding five points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks, first-year guard Emily Thach with five points and three assists, and rookie forward Kandace Payne chipping in four points and seven rebounds.
The bench shot an impressive 60 percent from the field, 23 of 38 shots, while the starters only made 16 of 40. Overall, the Lancers shot 50 percent from the floor.
After resting most of the game, sophomore starting center Kaitlyn Parks used the last few minutes to nearly reach a double-double on 10 points and nine rebounds.
For Compton, Trina Armstrong played well, scoring 10 points, blocking three shots, and leading everyone with eight steals.
PCC plays at El Camino College on Friday, Jan. 24 in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Torrance campus.
