News: Deep Men's Cross Country Team Led By Francis Lee
Freshman Francis Lee led a group of 12 Pasadena City College men's cross country team racers Friday at the 65th Mt. SAC Invitational. Lee placed 11th overall in the 4-mile race and helped the Lancers place ninth among 21 teams participating.
Lee (from Arcadia High) crossed the finish line with a strong time of 21:33. He was one of nine Lancers who placed in the upper half of the 207-runner field. After sophomore Kevin Cano's 43rd place finish (22:16), PCC ran in two different packs.
The first pack consisted of freshmen Alfredo Folgar (60th, 22:30), Brendan Greene (61, 22:30), and Juan De La Rosa (64th, 22:34). After rookie Oswel Caal's 76th place showing (22:52), the next PCC pack included freshman Faustino Gil (95th, 23:06), newcomer Charlie Camacho (96th, 23:11), and sophomore Brian Sacripanti (97th, 23:11). Showing the depth of the Lancers is the fact that Sacripanti (Maranatha High) was PCC's top freshman and posted the team's top marks last season.
The rest of the Lancers finished as follows: frosh Jack Serna (148th, 24:37), first-year Chris Paidimukkala (164th, 25:32), and rookie Andy Garcia (184th, 27:18).
PCC's finish was one of the highest by a Lancers team at the Mt. SAC Invite. In its two most previous appearances in 2009 and 2003, Pasadena placed 23rd.
The Lancers will compete in the South Coast Conference Championships on Thursday, October 25 at Griffith Park (hosted by LA Trade Tech). The women's race begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men's race at 9:30 a.m.
