Diane Lombardi ran to 42nd place individually as the Pasadena City College women's cross country team placed 15th at the CCCAA State Championship meet held Nov. 17 at Fresno's Woodward Park. Lombardi ran a time of 19 minutes, 34.11 seconds over the 3.1 mile course.

Lombardi finished as PCC's top racer after she struggled at the Southern California Championships. The sophomore from Crescenta Valley High ran the fourth fastest state time by a Lancer since 2001.

Sophomore Arielle Barragan-Steimer followed Lombardi in 73rd place (20:08.32) and SoCal top performer and freshman Christina Shamarian placed 94th (20:35.92). In 125th was freshman Tanya Hossain (21:03.31) and first-year runner Kailadnni Chavez crossed the line in 155th (21:44.03). Also finishing the race for the Lancers were letterman Melissa Hadloc (168th, 22:12.63) and frosh Linda Flores-Barillas (180th, 22:36.82). Two-hundred-seven runners from more than 30 colleges participated in the event.

Although the Lancers placed five spots lower than their 10th place finish in 2011, they did place 11th among this year's top-heavy SoCal Region teams.

"I was real happy with the way we improved from both the SCC and SoCal meets," said PCC head coach Armand Crespo. "Diane stepped up and ran a super race as did Arielle, Christina and Tanya. We moved up four spots from SoCal and that made for a strong finish to the season."
