News: Football Season Ends, Pierson Reaches 11.5 Final Sacks

After two strong efforts against Allan Hancock (a win) and Ventura (a 10-point loss), the Pasadena City College football team hoped to end the 2013 season with a win v. visiting Bakersfield on Saturday. Instead, the Renegades pounded the Lancers, 52-6, to end a rough year for PCC.

The Lancers finished 1-9 and 1-5 in the SCFA National Northern Conference (tied for sixth place). Bakersfield, a program stripped of the 2012 CCCAA state title, closed its year at 5-5.

PCC's points were supplied on a pair of field goals, kicks of 38 and 34 yards, by freshman placekicker Ricardo Cardenas.

PCC sophomore defensive lineman Dalyou Pierson led the SCFA in sacks, picking up another takedown for an SCFA-leading 11.5 sacks on the season. This year, Pierson had 19 tackles overall behind the line of scrimmage as part of his 48 tackles.

Defensive back Dashon Wade made nine tackles to give him a team-leading 62 for the season.

The Lancers leading scorer ended up being Cardenas, who totaled 26 points and was an efficient 6-for-7 on field goal attempts (plus eight extra points). PCC scored 143 points and its 14.3 points per game average was the lowest by a Lancers team since 2005 (12.2 average that year).

Frosh running back Travion Boykins played well v. Bakersfield with eight carries for 81 yards, including a Lancers season-best, 45-yard gainer. Sophomore wide receiver Marcus Green added five receptions for 50 yards as he led the team in receiving with 30 catches (396 yards and three touchdowns). Joshua Hayden contributed 83 yards in three kick returns.

Bakersfield amassed 505 yards of offense, averaging close to 10 yards per play. Quarterback Cruise Adams completed 10 of 15 passes for 291 yards, including TD strikes of 43 and 39 yards to Colin Spencer and a 51-yard connection to Kamron McKinney. The Renegades added a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown by Cody Jones in the third quarter.
