News: Nine PCC Football Players Now Signed With 4-Year Universities
Pasadena City College head football coach Fred Fimbres announced that seven more players have signed 4-year university scholarships to raise the number to nine 2013 Lancers who have moved on to the next level.
The latest crop of signings is headed by offensive lineman and All-SCFA National Northern Conference First Team selection Raul Martinez (Burbank Burroughs High), who has inked his name with NCAA Division I Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Martinez, a 6-foot-3, 265-pounder was a two-year starter at guard for the Lancers. Old Dominion is a member of Conference USA.
Linebacker Javon McElroy-Bradford accepted a scholarship to attend/play at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. McElroy-Bradford (Washington Prep, Los Angeles) was second on the '13 Lancers in tackles with 53 and added two forced fumbles.
Three PCC offensive linemen have been signed by Langston University, a NAIA college in Oklahoma. Joining the '13 Central States Football League conference champions are guard Jose Montes De Oca (6-3, 300, Garfield High), guard Konelio Maino (6-1, 315, Taft Union) and tackle Lester Quintana (6-2, 275, Burroughs). Paul An, Langston's offensive line coach who recruited the trio, is a PCC football alumnus and was a member of the 2001 Mission Conference champion Lancers.
Wide receiver Reggie Williams (Crenshaw High) is at NAIA Briar Cliff University (Sioux City, Iowa) while linebacker/fullback Kevin Tapia (South Pasadena HS) is attending Whittier College on an academic scholarship.
Including Dalyou Pierson (Iowa State) and Miguel Machado (Michigan State), Fimbres' sophomore list of college transfers is climbing. PCC carried 27 sophomores overall in the '13 season.
"There are more to come," Fimbres said. "Several players are entertaining offers and some others are trying to get their educational needs and requirements squared away before moving from PCC. We're proud of these transfers."
