News: PCC Foundation Launches Fundraising Effort for New Tournament of Roses Honor Band Uniforms

Podley Properties

The Pasadena City College Foundation has embarked on a campaign to raise money for new Tournament of Roses Honor Band uniforms.

“One of the greatest honors that a high school band student can receive is to be chosen to join the PCC Lancer Band in the fall and transform themselves into the Tournament of Roses Honor Band,” said Kyle Luck, PCC band director. “Each year, the Tournament of Roses Honor Band marches in the Rose Parade and seen by millions around the world. In 2014, the world will see brand new band uniforms.”

Current uniforms are marred by torn lining, fraying, discoloration, and stains. They also have been used almost a decade longer than expected.

The band is planning to raise $120,000 to perform in new uniforms for 2014. Fundraising efforts include a student-led phonathon to ask band alumni and their families to support the cause as well as a community and business campaign.

Most recently, Pasadena-based Podley Properties has donated $900, or three band uniforms, to the campaign.

In addition to having a portion of the per uniform $300 donation as tax-deductible, sponsors will receive a custom-made lapel pin.
