News: Hairspray Auditions This Week in Sexon Auditorium

HAIRSPRAY

Will be the 2013 Spring Musical at Pasadena City College

Actors, Singers and Dancers Are invited to AUDITION at one of four sessions

Tuesday, Oct 30, 2012--6:30 to 10:00 p.m.

Wednesday, October 31, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m and 6:30 to 10:00 p.m.

Thursday, Nov 1, 2012--6:30 to 10:00 p.m.

DANCER-ONLY CALL: Friday, Nov. 2, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sexson Stage

TO GET TO SEXSON STAGE, go to the stage door at the back of the C Building. The door is just to the right of the tall metal staircase adjoining the building.

Choose one of the four sessions above, arrive at the beginning, and be prepared to stay for the full session. Prepare an up-tempo song and a ballad in the style of Hairspray. Actual songs from the show are OK. Bring sheet music in your key--An accompanist will be provided. A dance combination will be taught--Dress so that you can dance vigorously. Wear jazz shoes or sneakers—no flip-flops.

You may come to dance at more than one call. The Dancer-Only call will be more difficult than the Principal calls, but you won't have to prepare a song.

CALLBACKS, on Sexson Stage, are Tuesday, Nov. 6, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., and Wednesday, October 31, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m

Rehearsals will begin January 7, 2013. The production will have a full orchestra, and will run from February 22 to March 2, 2013, in Sexson Auditorium.

CAST OF CHARACTERS (None are Pre-Cast)

Character	Description
*Tracy Turnblad*	A "pleasantly plump" teenager, who dreams of fame and fights to racially integrate The Corny Collins Show. Strong singer and dancer.
*Edna Turnblad*	Tracy's kind, plus-sized mother –possibly a drag role. . Character singer and dancer
*Amber Von Tussle*	Bratty, selfish resident princess of The Corny Collins Show, and daughter of the producer. Strong actress-singer—dance a plus
*Velma Von Tussle*	Amber's scheming mom, who pushes her daughter to seek the stardom that she never had.
*Penny Pingleton*	Tracy's slightly dorky, devoted and perky best friend. Singer and dancer.
*Link Larkin*	Teenage heartthrob of The Corny Collins Show, who falls in love with Tracy. Singer and dancer.
*Motormouth Maybelle*	Owner of a downtown record shop and the hostess of "Negro Day" on th Collins Show. Mature, strong singer, “Big, blond and beautiful.” (Queen Latifah in the film).
*Seaweed J. Stubbs*	A hip "Negro Day" dancer and the son of Motormouth Maybelle. He falls in love with Tracy’s friend Penny. Strong singer and dancer.
*Wilbur Turnblad*	Tracy’s goofy father, madly in love with his wife, Edna. He encourages Tracy to follow her dreams. Character actor, singer and dancer.
*Corny Collins*	The eccentricand cocky host of The Corny Collins Show.
*Little Inez*	Seaweed's young sister, rejected from the show because she is black. Must sing and dance.
*Female Authority Figures*	The Matron guarding The Big Dollhouse; the Gym Teacher; and Prudy Pingleton, Penny's overprotective and often close-minded mother
*Male Authority Figures*	Mr. Pinky, owner of Mr. Pinky's Hefty Hideaway who gives Tracy and Edna a makeover; Principal of Patterson Park High School; and Mr. Harriman F. Spritzer, the President of Ultra Clutch
*The Dynamites*	An African-American singing/dancing female rhythm and blues trio
*Students*	All must sing or dance, or both.
*Special Ed Kids*	All must sing or dance, or both.
*Hookers*	ENSEMBLE WILL DOUBLE AS MANY OF THESE CHARACTERS, AND MORE. EVERYONE WILL HAVE PLENTY TO DO!
