News: El Camino Rallies Late v. Men's Soccer, 4-2
In a tough blow to the Pasadena City College men's soccer team's standing in the South Coast Conference, the Lancers gave up a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes in a 4-2 loss to El Camino College at Robinson Stadium.
PCC had entered the game tied for third place with Los Angeles Harbor in the SCC, but El Camino has now joined the fray tying PCC in total conference points with 13. Depending on other matches, PCC could drop to fourth. The Lancers are 5-5-5 overall and 4-3-1 in conference while El Camino is 5-4-6 and also 4-3-1 in the SCC.
The Lancers took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on Eric Chavez's sixth goal of the season on a pass from Luis Flores, PCC's top playmaker recording his seventh assist.
El Camino tied it on a combination play with Kyrian Nwabueze scoring in the 34th minute. At the 65th minute, Branddon Cando drove in an 17-yard shot for a 2-1 ECC lead. PCC would tie it in the 74th minute as Zack Larson dribbled into the box and slid a cross that was one-timed high into the upper part of the net by Sergio Benitez. It was Benitez's fifth goal.
Two minutes later, PCC defender Jovanny Silva got into a harsh head-to-head collision with El Camino's Manuel Paez that halted play for several minutes. The two players both left the match and did not return.
PCC's momentum seemed to wane from that point as El Camino grabbed a 3-2 lead on Nwabueze's second goal in the 78th minute. The Warriors would cap the victory with an indirect free kick from the top of the 6-yard goalie box, blasted in by Jose Monroy with three minutes remaining. Reserve forward Derrick Hamilton earned his fourth assist.
Lancers goalie Gaetano Perez finished with 10 saves .
PCC next visits East Los Angeles College for a 4 p.m. conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
