News: Men's Soccer Hosts Oxnard In SoCal Playoff Round 1, Saturday At APU, 2 PM
The No. 7-seeded Pasadena City College men's soccer team will host No. 10 Oxnard on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The playoff match will be played at Azusa Pacific University's soccer field. Game time is 2 p.m.
The Lancers (8-6-7) were the third place team in the powerful South Coast Conference, a league that qualified six teams into the 14-team regional playoff field. Oxnard (15-5-1) was the Western State Conference champion.
PCC is led by sophomore goalie Gaetano Perez along with sophomore forwards Luis Flores (eight goals, nine assists), Zack Larson (eight goals, seven assists) and Eric Chavez (team-leading nine goals). Oxnard is paced by two of the top seven points scorers in the state in Johnny Lopez (18 goals) and Alex Garcia, who has 14 goals and a region-leading 14 assists.
The Lancers are making their first postseason appearance since 2008 and first under fourth-year head coach Edgar Manvelyan. PCC is 4-2 in its history v. Oxnard and hasn't faced the Condors since 2009.
The winner of this match will travel to face No. 2 seed San Bernardino Valley in a round 2 regional playoff match on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
