News: Two-Time Men's Soccer Top Goal Scorer Chavez Goes To NY College
Forward Eric Chavez, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team leading goal scorer in 2013, has earned a scholarship to atttend NCAA Division III Manhattanville College in New York. He becomes the third Lancers player in the past two seasons to play for the Valiants.
Michael Alcaraz and Yeyson Caballeros, lettermen from the 2012 Lancers, played last season at Manhattanville as juniors. The three were all teammates on that '12 PCC squad.
A local product from Pasadena High, Chavez scored a PCC-high nine goals and added an assist as one of three Lancers to appear in all 22 games in the 2013 season. Chavez netted the game-winning goal five times and his offensive prowess helped the Lancers reach the Southern California Regional Playoffs as a No. 7 seed. In his freshman season, he also tied for the team lead in goals with five in 2012.
Chavez, who was selected All-South Coast Conference Second Team on a talented Lancers '13 squad, had a pair of 2-goal games this past year. One of them was in a memorable 5-2, come-from-behind victory over then 3-time defending state champion Mt. San Antonio at Robinson Stadium.
Chavez will play for Coach Gregg Miller at Manhattanville after two years under the direction of PCC head coach Edgar Manvelyan and associate head coach Henry Cabral.
Tied for 12th on the all-time goals list (14) at PCC, Chavez closed his Lancers' career at No. 19 in overall points (30).
