News: Softball's Suleymanyan On Her Way To Alcorn State

Ilene Suleymanyan, a two-year letterman on the Pasadena City College softball team, is continuing her education and playing career on scholarship at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss. Suleymanyan, a recent Elizabeth Jensen academic transfer scholarship recipient at PCC, was the Lancers' starting third baseman this past season.

In 2010, Suleymanyan entered the Lancers' program and played as reserve infielder for then coach Elaine Martinez. After redshirting in 2011, the Glendale High product started all but one game this year under the direction of first-year head coach Brittany Williams.

She batted .280 overall and finished second on the Lancers in RBI with 22. Her 59 assists from the hot corner was third on the team in that defensive category. A latecomer to the sport, Suleymanyan didn't begin playing competitive softball until she entered high school, but a strong work ethic helped her become an all-league prep player as a first baseman.

"Ilene was one of the hardest-working players for us this season," Williams said of her first four-year university transfer. "Her competitive nature and drive set a good example for the freshmen. She has great potential to do well at Alcorn."

Suleymanyan joins the Lady Braves, members of the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) for her junior season in 2013.
