News: Softball All-SCC OF Brittany Skoien Now At William Penn University
Brittany Skoien, an All-South Coast Conference First Team selection as an outfielder for the Pasadena City College softball team this past season, accepted a scholarship to play and attend William Penn University (West Des Moines, Iowa).
Skoien joins a WPU program that is ranked No. 22 in the nation in the pre-season NAIA coaches' poll. The Lady Statesmen are the defending Midwest Collegiate Conference champions after a 47-18 season. Skoien's junior season begins in Feburary, 2013.
At PCC, Skoien played on the 2010 Lancers, sat out 2011, then became the team's top performer as a sophomore this year. A product of Glendale High, Skoien was the team's centerfielder as she led the Lancers in seven different offensive categories. She led the SCC in on-base percentage with a .588 league-only mark. Overall in 39 games played, she batted .351 while also leading PCC in hits (33), runs scored (30), stolen bases (13), walks (27), doubles (seven) and triples (four). She batted .440 in 21 conference contests.
As a defensive player, Skoien was considered the conference's gold glove performer with 59 outfield putouts and seven assists on throwing out runners (.957 fielding percentage). Skoien is the second Lancer from head coach Brittany Williams' 2012 team to land a scholarship after corner infielder Ilene Suleymanyan earned a transfer to Alcorn State (Mississippi).
Williams begins her second season in charge of the Lancers in 2013.
