News: Softball, Izumida Blanks El Camino, 2-0
Melissa Izumida hurled a six-hitter and pitched her third shutout of the season as the Pasadena City College softball team turned back El Camino College, 2-0, Feb. 21 in a South Coast Conference game at Robinson Park. The Lancers are 8-8 overall, 2-2 in conference and a sparkling 7-1 at home. Izumida pitched out of two bases loaded jams, one in the fourth inning with no outs, and stranded nine El Camino runners on base. Third baseman Katelynn Thordarson (2-for-3) provided the offense with a line shot off the left-center field fence in the first inning that resulted in a single and two RBI that gave PCC a 2-0 lead. Izumida, a redshirt freshman from Gabrielino High, struck out seven batters and walked three to improve her pitching record to 4-3. Rightfielder Vanessa Contreras and designated player Sara Quintero each batted 2-for-3. The Lancers play at Long Beach City College today in a 3 p.m. conference game.
