News: Softball's Ficocelli Heading To William Penn U.

ficocelli

Pasadena City College softball sophomore Natalie Ficocelli, the only player to play for head coach Brittany Williams' first two Lancers teams, has earned a scholarship to play/attend William Penn University (West Des Moines, Iowa). Ficocelli was the Lancers' starting first baseman this past season and an All-South Coast Conference honorable mention.

Ficocelli joins the Lady Statesmen, a NAIA program, and is reunited with former Lancer teammate Brittany Skoien, who redshirted this past year at WPU. Skoien was an All-SCC First Team centerfielder for PCC in 2012.

Ficocelli, a two-year letterman at PCC, and Skoien will try to help WPU rebound from a fourth place finish this past season in the Midwest Collegiate Conference despite a 32-21 overall record.

As a sophomore this year, Ficocelli came on strong in the last month of the season and finished with a .328 batting average, 1 home run, six doubles and 15 RBI. She led the team in fielding percentage with a .986 mark, just two errors in 144 chances. The Burbank Providence High grad is both a left-handed batter and fielder.

"Natalie is a smart player who was easy for me to coach because she listened to our guidance and worked hard to improve her overall game," Williams said. "What will be great for her is to get to play with a familiar face in Brittany Skoien at the next level. It will help her adjust to life outside of California. I expect both to be big contributors at William Penn."
