News: Serna's Homer Not Enough In Softball Loss To Glendale

First baseman Audrey Serna slugged a solo home run, the first all season by a Lancer at home, but it wasn't enough as the Pasadena City College softball team lost to Glendale, 6-4, in a non-conference, make-up game played Saturday at Robinson Park. The game was originally scheduled for March 1 but was rained out.

The dinger, a bomb to left center that tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning, was just the third all year by the Lancers (12-21 overall). Glendale (14-15) came up with a 2-RBI single from its first baseman Cassandra Soto in the fifth to go ahead 4-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, PCC rallied as outfielder-pitcher Breanna Rodrigo used her speed to get on base when she beat out a bunt single and then stole second. After a walk to shortstop Maddy Gianoli, catcher Allison Lacey laced a single to center that scored Rodrigo. But with runners on first and third, designated player Jennifer Pegg lined out to center to end the game and the rally.

Lacey continued her hot hitting by going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Lacey and Serna have been competing for the team's batting lead as Lacey leads with a .398 average (and a team-high 27 RBI) to Serna's .397. Last year, Serna led the team as a freshman with a .408 average.

PCC will get back to South Coast Conference play on Tuesday, April 8 when it travels to Torrance to take on El Camino College at 3 p.m.
