News: Seventh Place For Men's Swim At Pasadena Invitational

In previous years, the Pasadena City College men's swim team has used its Pasadena Invitational as a revealing tuneup to good things at the South Coast Conference Championships and CCCAA State Championships. After the Lancers' seventh place finish at the 13th edition of their invitational on April 5-6, it is hard to gauge what will happen for some of the squad's top swimmers.

Stephen To, the defending state champion in the 200-yard butterfly, twice was beaten to the wall in the 200 and 100 butterfly events. In the  200, Diablo Valley swimmer Monty Randall beat To by just .07 of a second as To settled for second at 1:56.13. In the 100 fly, Randall also beat To at the finish, but by a longer .52 of a second mark. To swam 52.06. To placed fifth in the 200 individual medley at 2:03.21.

In the 200 backstroke, Lancer freshman Michael Chiodo placed fourth at 2:05.26. Chris Anderson took seventh place in the 3-meter diving (169.20 points). John Darrin Smith was ninth in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.63).

Diablo Valley won the men's team title, it's first Pasadena Invite title since 2008. The Lancers moved up a spot in the 15-team event from last year when they took eighth.

The Lancers are looking to have at least one conference individual champion for the 10th straight season April 18-20 when they participate in the South Coast Conference Championships at Chaffey College. To and Chiodo go in as favorites in a few of the swims.

Anderson will dive at the SCC Diving Championships on April 12-13 at El Camino College. Scoring for diving is included in team scoring at the SCC swimming finals.
