News: Men's Swimming's To Ends PCC Career With 2 More State Medals

Pasadena City College men's swimmer Stephen To can certainly be proud of a Lancers' career that placed him as one of the school's great butterfly swimmers. To closed out the PCC season April 26-27 by accomplishing a fourth place medal in the 100-yard butterfly and a sixth place in the 200 butterfly at the CCCAA State Championships held at East Los Angeles College.

On Friday, To raced to a 50.82 time in the 100 fly, then swam 1:54.83 in his attempt to try to repeat his state title on Saturday in the 200 fly set as a freshman in 2012. To's 200 race was a tough trip as he could not match the brilliant rally he made last year when his 1:50.52 time was the second fastest in PCC history.

To, from local San Marino High, ended with four state medals in his two years (one gold, two fourths, one sixth) and was the South Coast Conference back-to-back champion in both the 100 and 200 fly. To is currently deciding on his 4-year university future and will sign a scholarship in the near future, according to PCC head coach Terry Stoddard.

PCC placed in a tie for 25th place at the state meet, but only had two qualifiers. Sophomore Michael Chiodo swam in both the 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley events. In the 100 back, he placed 11th or third in the B final with a time of 53.69 seconds. In the 200 back, Chiodo (Kennedy High) didn't make it out of the prelims as he missed the B final by .18 of a second (2:02.35). Chiodo was 21st in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.65.

The Lancers have a current streak of eight straight years in which at least one swimmer has scored a top 8 place medal at the state meets.
