News: UPDATED 8/23--Women's Volleyball Hosts 3-Way Scrimmage v. Butte, Glendale This Friday

Ranked No. 12 in last year's State Top 25 final poll, the Pasadena City College women's volleyball team returns seven lettermen. The Lancers will get their first game action this Friday, Aug. 24 when they compete in home exhibition scrimmages against both Glendale College and Butte College from Oroville, Northern California. The teams will play the morning practice contests (does not count toward won-loss record) beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

Among the Lancers returning from a 20-5, Southern California Regional playoff second round finalist are talented 6-foot plus middle blockers in Jackie Valle-Acosta and Megan Callen. Valle-Acosta was an All-South Coast Conference First Team selection as a freshman while Callen made the All-SCC Second Team.

PCC's 2012 season officially begins on Friday, Aug. 31 in the annual PCC Quad Tournament. The Lancers play two consecutive, round-robin matches against Citrus (3 p.m.) and Glendale (5 p.m.). Santa Barbara City, Cypress and Mt. San Antonio also will be in action as all teams play two matches each in the one-day tourney.

Pasadena Head Coach Tammy Silva begins her sixth season in charge of the Lancers. She has amassed a sparkling 92-30 overall record (.754 win percentage) at PCC, including the only South Coast Conference title ever won by the volleyball program in 2009.
