News: Bill Sanchez To Coach PCC Women's Volleyball In 2013

Pasadena City College has announced that Bill Sanchez will assume the duties of interim head women's volleyball coach for the 2013 season. Tammy Silva, the Lancers' head coach for the past six seasons, is taking a one year sabbatical from coaching and is expected to return for the 2014 season.

Silva will continue her full-time faculty position at the college.

Sanchez, about to begin his sixth season in charge of PCC's successful women's badminton program, coached girls volleyball during his 20 years of teaching at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (1985-2005). Sanchez played collegiately as an All-Metropolitan Conference setter at Los Angeles Valley College.

Silva turned the PCC volleyball program into a state power, including coaching the Lancers to their first two South Coast Conference titles in 2009 and in 2012. Since becoming head coach in 2006, Silva compiled a 113-35 record at PCC for an outstanding .764 winning percentage.

In '09, she was honored nationally as the AVCA Community College Coach of the Year and was chosen the 2009-2010 South Coast Conference Coach of the Year for all sports.

Sanchez has also put together a winning run at PCC in coaching the Lancers to four consecutive SCC titles (2009-2012) in badminton, and guiding the development of last year's state individual singles champion Angie Ortiz. The 2010 team finished as state runner-up.
