Setter Kailey Faust and outside hitter Viridiana Gallardo, starters on the 2012 South Coast Conference co-champion Pasadena City College women's volleyball team, will continue playing together after each signed scholarships to attend Pacific Union College, a NAIA institution located in Napa Valley (Angwin, Calif.).

Faust was an All-SCC First Team selection who averaged 9.85 assists per set last year as the Lancers finished No. 7 on the State Top 25 poll. Gallardo averaged 2.12 kills and 2.61 digs and made PCC's play of the season. She rifled a kill with the Lancers facing match point against in the fifth set as PCC pulled off an incredible comeback from two sets down to defeat Orange Coast College in the second round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs.

Both players were two-year lettermen under head coach Tammy Silva and they helped the Lancers go 41-10 during their run. This past season, the Lancers advanced to round 3 before being eliminated by eventual two-time CCCAA state champion Los Angeles Pierce.

Faust came from St. Lucy's Priory (Glendora) while Gallardo was a product of Polytechnic High (Sun Valley). Gallardo followed her older sister Alejandra, who was an all-conference basketball player at Pacific Union in 2012-2013. Another older Gallardo sister Gabby was an All-Southern California volleyball player at PCC in 2000 and later played at Henderson State (Arkansas).

Faust and Gallardo are attempting to become league/conference champions at three different levels (preps, community college, university) if they can accomplish the feat at Pacific Union.

Silva, who now has three players that have earned scholarships from the 2012 team, was excited for her former student-athletes.

"Viri was a special two-way player, especially in some big clutch situations for us," said Silva, who is taking a leave of absence from coaching PCC for the 2013 season. "Kailey was a steady setter, who did a great job of distributing the ball to all of our hitters. She worked her way into becoming one of the top setters in the region. Both should help Pacific Union immensely."
