Dr. Linda Zoolalian enjoys an active career as a pianist, teacher, vocal coach, and music director in both America and Europe. In 1996 she joined the music staff of PCC as an accompanist and coach and continued to accompany the Chamber Singers under Donald Brinegar until May 2014. Since 1999 Dr. Zoolalian has been on the piano faculty of PCC as well, where she teaches several piano and keyboard skills' classes. This fall she's excited to add a music appreciation class to her teaching roster. In 2003 she joined the staff of Los Angeles Opera, being responsible for preparing and cueing all of the supertitles, including creating titles for the education outreach operas. In the past, she has also played for the compay, accompanying dance rehearsals, chorus auditions and for the education department's school workshops and tours. This past spring Dr. Zoolalian was a visiting professor at Cal Arts where she taught song rep, accompanying, and coached singers and ensembles. This coming fall she is excited to join the faculty of Glendale Community College. From 2008 to 2014 she worked at Pomona College of the Claremont Colleges, teaching musicianship, giving private piano lessons, and accompanying the choirs and student recitals.
In 2011 she was the music director of Repertory Opera Company where she prepared and performed completely staged and costumed productions of La Traviata and Carmen. From 1997 until 2005 Dr. Zoolalian was the head vocal coach and opera pianist for the Opera Institute at California State University Long Beach. In the past she has been hired to play for the Los Angeles Phiharmonic, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Opera Pacific, Long Beach Opera and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. For several seasons she enjoyed playing for the Los Angeles Library's Performing Books Series sponsored by the Music Center. In addition, she continues to maintain a private teaching and coaching studio at her home nearby.
For many summers Dr. Zoolalian returned to Europe to work for an American music festival. She served on the staff of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria for three years and from 2002 to 2012 she worked as music director, coach, pianist, and teacher of accompanying for the Operafestival di Roma in Italy. This summer she joined the faculty of Angel Vocal Arts' first annual Intensive Opera Program held locally on CSULA's campus. She has been on the music staffs of other prestigious summer festivals as well, including Songest, Idyllwild Arts and Operaworks. Earlier in her career she was invited to study at the Aspen Music Festival with renowned pianist, Ann Schein, and the Academy of the West for two summers, where she worked closely with Warren Jones and Graham Johnson.
Awarded a Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston in Piano Performance, Dr. Zoolalian pursued both a Master's and Doctorate in Keyboard Collaborative Arts from the University of Southern California's Thorton School of Music, having studied with Dr. Alan Smith and graduated with honors. She is proud to be one of the first graduates of the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, where she has returned to play recitals and give master classes. Dr. Zoolalian has performed in Japan, Europe and throughout the United States, including Los Angeles' Disney Hall.
