Background  Andrea Wilkerson aka Andrea Baker

Director of Jazz Studies

Professional singer, guitarist/bassist also play piano,  arrange and compose. Philosophy on Music and Music Education -I enjoy teaching music because of the joy it brings to the participants - both the performers and the audience. Music education is very valuable, especially in today's frantic society. It calms the beast. It makes our society much more civilized. I especially am partial to jazz because it is truly the music of America and because of the freedom of expression it allows. The music makes you think! I didn''t choose jazz - it chose me.  In addition to my passion for teaching I also perform regulary as a solo artist and with my husband, saxophoist, Steve Wilkerson.  We have recently been featured with legendary composer,  Johnny Mandel.

Our jazz festival, PCC Jazz Day continues to attract top high school bands and is in its 9th year featuring nationally acclaimed clinicians.  We boast one of the largest and most outstanding faculty rosters in the California system. Our graduates are routinely awarded scholarships and admission to top music schools nationwide.
