The Writing Center employs an average of 20 student workers each semester. You may be employed as either a Writing Consultant (tutor) or as a Staff worker.

Writing Center Employment Application
Writing Consultant responsibilities and requirements:
- Meet with students in one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions
- Check students in and out of the Writing Center
- Provide support for students working in the computer lab
- Enforce all Writing Center rules
- Perform general clerical and maintenance tasks as may be required
To be hired as a Writing Consultant, a student must pass English 1A with a grade of "A" and complete a hiring process that will include interviews, English skills tests, and writing samples.
Staff responsibilities and requirements:
- Check students in and out of the Writing Center
- Provide support for students working in the computer lab
- Enforce all Writing Center
rules
- Perform general clerical and maintenance tasks as may be required
To be hired as a staff employee, a student must be enrolled in either the "Federal Workstudy Program" or the "CalWorks" program. Special English skills are not required for this position. |
