| Chinese 3: Intermediate Chinese |
Course Description:
Intermediate Chinese I is designed to allow students
to pursue different topics in more depth. It places considerable
emphasis on building up of vocabulary, sentence patterns,
and expanding reading and writing abilities. A variety
of authentic language resources as well as the standard
textbook will be adopted. Writing activities will include
weekly journals, letters, memos, skits, and reading reports.
Students will also enhance their critical listening, speaking,
and note-taking skills. They are expected to fully participate
in the discussion sessions in Mandarin Chinese.
Objectives:
After the completion of this course, the student will:
1. learn additional 300 characters and 600 vocabulary
items.
2. demonstrate the understanding of the grammatical structures
and patterns discussed in this course verbally and in
written.
3. comprehend and respond to the factual topics of public
interest, i.e. describing or narrating main points and
most supporting details of familiar topics.
4. take notes in some detail on familiar topics, and respond
in writing to personal questions; write simple letters,
and paragraph-length information. |
