| Chinese 4 : Intermediate Chinese

Course Description:
Chinese 4 is an intermediate course designed for students
who finished Chinese 3 or the equivalent. This course
will enhance students' understanding of Chinese culture
and contemporary Chinese life through in-depth study of
various topics and issues, such as life style, education,
gender role, family, customs, etc. In addition to learning
more vocabulary, grammar, and sentence patterns, students
will also be able to apply the knowledge in their Chinese
conversation and writing. This course will be conducted
primarily in Chinese. Students are encouraged to recognized
both standard and simplified character forms of Chinese
characters. Students are also expected to fully participate
in the discussion sessions in Mandarin. Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will
be able to
1. demonstrate mastery of additional 300 characters and
500 vocabulary items.
2. present their ideas clearly and speak fluently in Chinese
on daily topics.
3. write personal letters and compositions on assigned
topics in Chinese with clarity and reasonable correctness.
4. read Chinese newspaper and magazine articles with general
understanding.
5. understand the aspects of Chinese life style and culture
presented in the selected readings and lectures. |
