Union station
public art
Union Chairs, 1993
Christopher Sproat, artist
Most of the art works relate to the history and culture of Los Angeles. Once a great American railroad station, Union Station, has recently been revived as the hub for all the Metro lines: Red, Gold, Green and Blue. The architecture has remained intact. At the East of the station, a crystallized dome highlights a mural celebrating Los Angeles' cultural diversity (Frank Damon). Other public art include marble throne-like chairs designed to make a passenger feel like royalty (Christopher Sproat), and paintings depicting angels from different religions. Some of these angels make reference to air, earthquakes, insomnia, mercy, Monday, lies, scandal, fish, vegetables, sea, and weather (Cynthia Carlson).
