Syllabus for Music 70D/170D Trombone Choir Steven J Williams Instructor Phone - 626.826.1772 Email - stebejwilliams@verizon.net Prerequisite: Instructor approval Attendance: Punctual attendance is an important part to this class. Attendance history will be considered in the final grade. Grades are based on attendance, participation in performances, successful preparation of assigned material, and participating in rehearsals in a respectful and attentive manner. The purpose of this class is to challenge the student trombonist with music that is more challenging than the music found in other ensembles. The technical demands of the literature require greater range and flexibility than other playing situations. The roles of carrying the melody, playing the bass line are explored with the intention of developing a sophisticated sense of line with the ability to tune according to the overtone series. Development of an internal sense of rhythm so that the player is not dependent on a conductor is also an important goal. Attention to improvement of tone quality and the development of more subtle variations of articulation and dynamics are also important goals.
