Video signal flow and station/network architecture. The information given in this class is basic fundamentals that can be used across a myriad of job positions within the industry. Student Learning Objectives: Upon the successful completion of this course the student shall understand the following concepts and principles. Define the following Digital Video Compression standards and their use. MPEG 2, MPEG 4, H.264 , AVCHD. Define the ATSC Digital Television Standard and how it has been implemented. In addition the student will be instructed in the principles and industry practices regarding the generation of and use of SMPTE Timecode. Understand the theory of operation and basic principles in Digital Video Quality Assurance and Image control in utilizing the following: DCS ChromaDuMonde chart, Tektronix 601 Digital Waveform Monitor/ Vector scope and Tektronix 7120 Rasterizer. Understand and demonstrate knowledge regarding to video signal generation and signal flow in an SD or HD television facility Understand the theory and operation of a Broadcast Automation system and the roles and responsibilities of the Master Control Operator. Traffic department operations and interface. Rules regarding attendance: Failure to attend a class or classes will result in gaps in your job training and will directly affect your final course grade. Each student must attend each class session on time and for the remainder of the class to receive credit for the class. Late arrivals will not receive any credit for attending class. On the sign-in sheet a let T will be placed beside the students name indicating the student was tardy. Class attendance will affect you final grade. If a Student is between grades and has exceptional attendance, I may elect to give the Student a higher grade for their commitment to the class. At the end of each class session, the Student will initial the Attendance sheet as proof of his/her attending the class. It is the Students responsibility to initial this document. Grading Policy: Homework and Handout quizzes, Midterm and Final examination will be given at prescribed intervals. The Midterm and Final exam, make up 75% of your grade. Homework and Quizzes make up the remaining 25%.
