International Students

Newly Admitted Students: How to Maintain F-1 Status

  1. Maintain 12 units during the Fall and Spring semesters.

  2. Study hard and maintain a Grade Point Average of at least 2.0.

  3. All work authorization must first be filed and approved by the International Student Office and/or the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS).

  4. Have a current passport, a valid I-20 that is not expired, and all Immigration documents at all times.

  5. Contact the International Student Office to update student file with any new address, phone number, e-mail address, change of major, Social Security number, Tax Payer ID number, or other changes within 10 days.

  6. Have International Student Medical Insurance (including all dependents, if applicable) at all times.

  7. Come to the International Student Office to have I-20 signed every time student leaves the U.S. (Turn in copies of Passport, Visa, I-94, and all red stamps inside passport along with original I-20)
  8. Schedule an appointment to see a counselor for information on transfer, educational plan, choosing a major, or when having problems in class.
  9. Register for or attend classes at another college ONLY IF student has written permission from the International Student Office.
  10. Use only the student's legal name that appears in the passport.
  11. If student is absent from classes due to illness, the student must provide the International Student Office with a letter of excuses from a doctor.
  12. Student will report to the International Student Office within 5 working days of receiving a letter from that office.
