Services for Faculty & Staff

The Shatford Library offers a variety of services for PCC faculty and staff including borrowing priviledges, reference and research services and interlibrary loan. Please contact the Interim Assistant Library Dean, Pearl Ly (626) 585-7833, if you have questions or would like to request a service not listed below.

Library Research Sessions:

Faculty are encouraged to bring their classes for a Library Research Session that can be general or subject/assignment specific. Instructor must be present at the session. To make a request, contact Dorothy Potter (626) 585-7846 or fill out the online Library Research Session Request Form.

Instructor Reserves:

New Policy:  We are no longer accepting photocopied materials except for Practice Tests and Scripts to be placed in Instructor Reserves.  We recommend Canvas as a way to make photocopied materials accessible to your students under copyright law.

Non-photocopied materials, such as books, can be placed on Instructor Reserves, located behind the Library's Circulation Desk. To place items on Instructor Reserves please download and fill out the Instructor Reserve Form and bring it with your materials to the Circulation Desk.

Photocopies of Practice Tests and Scripts:  Please contact Lauren Bauer (626) 585-3309 regarding these types of items before you submit them.

Loan Periods and Restrictions:  Only current PCC students may use the material in Instructor Reserves.  The default reserve loan period is 2 hours for in-library use only.  However, if you would prefer longer or shorter loan periods (e.g. 30 minutes, 3 hours, or 7 days), please indicate this on the Instructor Reserve Form. Students are charged $1.00 per hour for each item not returned on time.

The Library has a separate Textbooks Reserves section (Library Use Only, located in the Library lobby). Additional copies of textbooks donated by departments or instructors are always welcome! Faculty are encouraged to work with their librarian Division Liaison to ensure the Library has the resources required or recommended by a class.

Media Reserves:

Shatford Library now hosts the video collection from the New Media Center.   Faculty and staff may check-out the video materials (VHS and DVD) for one week.  To ensure the materials are available when you need them, please contact Media Services.

Media Services:

Reserved media equipment are now available at the Library's Circulation Desk.  Please pick up and return equipment during the Library's open hours.  If you need equipment before 7:30 a.m., or if you need technical assistance please contact us at (626) 585-7292.

Borrowing Guidelines:

Faculty and staff have the same borrowing rules as students, but are not charged overdue fines and have a loan period of 6 weeks for general collection items. You will need your PCC LancerCard with you in order to check out materials. If a book is lost or damaged, you are obligated to pay our replacement cost for the item plus a $10.00 processing fee.

Reciprocal Borrowing Agreements & Interlibrary Loan:

PCC employees and PCC Students with a valid LancerCard and current registration print-out can obtain a library card and check books out from the Cal State LA Library and Glendale Community College Library . All public libraries have universal borrowing policies, which means anyone can obtain a card. Use WorldCat to search other libraries' collections simultaneously. If an item is not available in our vicinity, you can request it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Fill out an ILL form at the Reference Desk or submit the online Interlibrary Loan Form. Contact Lauren Bauer (626) 585-3309 if you have additional questions about ILL.

Reference Assistance:

Please visit the Reference Desk on the main floor of the Library, call the Reference Desk (626) 585-7360, or fill out our online form for reference/research assistance. Also, take a look at our Research Guides by Subject and Research Tutorials that could be useful for you and your students.

Periodical Database Access:

Faculty and staff can access the periodical databases from on or off campus via the Library's web site. From off campus, you will need to log in using your PCC campus Network ID and Password (which is what you use to log in to campus network computers and to access your e-mail account). If you do not have a Network ID and Password, please contact the HelpDesk, Building D Room 112 (626) 585-7523.
