Services for Faculty & Staff

The Shatford Library offers a variety of services for PCC faculty and staff including borrowing priviledges, reference and research services and interlibrary loan. Please contact the Assisant Dean, Mary Ann Laun (626) 585-7833, if you have questions or would like to request a service not listed below.

Library Orientations:

Faculty are encouraged to bring their classes to the Library for one or more Library Orientations taught by a librarian. Sessions cover paper and electronic resources and can be general or subject/assignment specific. Instructor must be present at the orientation session. To make a request, contact Dorothy Potter (626) 585-7846 or fill out the online Orientation Request Form.

Course Reserves:

Library copies or personal copies of items can be placed on Course Reserves for students to use for a limited period of time. To place items on reserve contact Jared Burton (626) 585-7843, or fill out the online Course Reserves Form. The Library automatically purchases 1-2 copies of most textbooks at the beginning of each semester for Course Reserves. The Library does not purchase workbooks or laboratory books. Students can check these textbooks out for 2 hours and are charged 50 cents per hour if not returned on time. We would love to have more copies available for students to share, but are unable to due to budget constraints. Additional copies donated by departments or instructors are always welcome! Faculty are encouraged to work with their librarian Division Liaison to ensure the Library has the resources required or recommended by a class.

Borrowing Guidelines:

Faculty and staff have the same borrowing rules as students, but are not charged overdue fines and have a loan period of 6 weeks for general collection items. You will need your PCC LancerCard with you in order to check out materials. If a book is lost or damaged, you are obligated to pay our replacement cost for the item plus a $10.00 processing fee.

Reciprocal Borrowing Agreements & Interlibrary Loan:

PCC employees and PCC Students with a valid LancerCard and current registration print-out can obtain a library card and check books out from the Cal State LA Library and Glendale Community College Library . All public libraries have universal borrowing policies, which means anyone can obtain a card. Use WorldCat to search other libraries' collections simultaneously. If an item is not available in our vicinity, you can request it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Fill out an ILL form at the Reference Desk or submit the online Interlibrary Loan Form. Contact Mane Hakopyan (626) 585-7835 if you have additional questions about ILL.

Reference Assistance:

Please visit the Reference Desk on the main floor of the Library, call the Reference Desk (626) 585-7360, or fill out our online form for reference/research assistance. Also, take a look at our subject based Library Guides, Handouts & Tutorials that could be useful for you and your students.

Periodical Database Access:

Faculty and staff can access the periodical databases from on or off campus via the Library's web site. From off campus, you will need to log in using your PCC campus Network ID and Password (which is what you use to log in to campus network computers and to access your Pegasus e-mail account). If you do not have a Network ID and Password, please contact the HelpDesk, Building D Room 112 (626) 585-7523.
