Wireless Internet Access
The Library has a Wireless Network that is accessible on the 2nd (main) and 3rd floors of the Library.
Unfortunately the Library's wireless is unstable and we cannot guarantee that it will always be functioning. The campus is working on this problem.
GETTING STARTED:
- Turn on your laptop computer and connect to the wireless network called PCC_Campus.
- Connecting to any other wireless network is done at your own risk.
- Open your Internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer). Your entry page will be redirected to PCC's wireless network log in page.
- For optimal bandwidth, log in to the wireless network using your Network I.D. and Password (PIN).
- If you do not have a Network ID and Password, just select Guest button (which provides access at a slower speed).
- You are now on the Internet!
NETWORK ID & PASSWORD (PIN):
All currently registered PCC students have an active Network I.D. and Password (PIN).
For students who registered at PCC for the first time after January 2007, the Network ID is the initials of your first, middle, and last name plus the last 4 digits on the front of your LancerCard ID. Example: WYZ1234. If you do not have a middle initial, use an X.
If you are still not sure what your Network ID is, or if you registered before January 2007, you can find your Network ID at the top of your Enrollment Fee Receipt which you can view via LancerLink Online Services. You will need to log in to LancerLink Online Services using your Institution ID Number (IIN), which is the last 8 digits on your LancerCard. Your IIN is also printed on your original PCC enrollment receipt, which was either given, mailed or e-mailed to you when you first enrolled at the college.
Your Password (PIN) is what you used for telephone or online registration. If you do not know your PIN (or do not remember it), please go to the Records Office (L113) in the Student Services building to verify your PIN.
Faculty and Staff: Log in with the Network ID and Password used to access the PCC network and Pegasus e-mail.
SOUND:
- So that you do not disturb other people in the Library, wear headphones or turn off (mute) the volume on your laptop.
PRINTING:
- Wireless printing is currently not available via the Library's wireless network.
LOGGING OUT:
- Click the log out button in the original browser window to disconnect from the network.
POWER OUTLETS:
- You can use any available power outlet to plug in your laptop. Many outlets can be found in the floor covered by a brass faceplate.
- Please do not unplug any Library equipment to access a power outlet.
USING A NETWORK CABLE:
- The Library does not have cabled access to the Internet for laptop computers.
- Please do not unplug any Library equipment to access a network line.
SIGNAL STRENGTH:
- If you are not finding a wireless signal, ask for assistance at the Reference desk.
- Please note that some areas in the Library have a stronger signal than others and that the Library has been experiencing quite a bit os instability. You may have to try a couple locations in the Library before you find a strong signal.
GETTING HELP:
- The Reference Librarian can verify that the Library's wireless network is working, but can not assist in making changes to your network settings or perform trouble-shooting on your laptop.
- Please refer to the owner's manual or other support services offered by your laptop manufacturer for additional help.
SECURITY
- PCC will not be responsible for any information that is compromised, or for any damage caused to your hardware or software due to electrical surges, security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking.
- All wireless Internet users should have up-to-date virus protection.
USE POLICIES:
- You are bound by the PCC Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources policy when utilizing the wireless network.
- All users are expected to use the wireless network in a responsible manner, consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which it is provided. You are subject to the normal requirements of legal and ethical behavior within the college community even though you are using a personal computer. Failure to comply with PCC policies and regulations will be handled in accordance with the College's disciplinary policy.
