Step 1: Determine What Type of Web Support You Need:
- A public web site that I create using an html editor or notepad, and possibly use ready made templates. Go to step 2 to request your PCC server space.
- A web site for my class, using features of the course management system (WebCT) with a student login. Suitable for placing Fair Use Copyright materials on the web. Go to WebCT
- I just need a public web site with my contact info, office hours, bio, syllabus and a few simple handouts available
to my students. A photo would be nice, but is optional. Go to PCC Portal Content Management System. Overview and tutorial.
Note: if you want to provide students access to copyrighted materials you cannot place those materials in a public web site, but should use the WebCT course management system which requires a login to access.
Step 2: Request web space on the server
Request
for web space on the PCC server
Download the request. Complete
your info and specify what you want for your password.
Be sure to read the agreement to
comply with the PCC Web Publishing Guidelines. Staff should contact
your cost center manager to sign. When coomplete drop it
off at MIS in C145. You will be notified by email when your web
space is ready. Go to step 3 for what tools and resources are available to get you started.
Step 3: Determine how you want to maintain your web content and
follow the links for more helpful information:
- On your own (Expert)
I'm familiar with HTML and CSS and will be creating and maintaining
my web page on my own.
- Using PCC Dreamweaver MX
Templates (Intermediate)
I'm using the Adobe Dreamweaver application and would like to use the ready made templates,
that are validated for accessibility and proper code, to make my
web site. (Templates are for DW MX and above.)
- Using Contribute (Beginner)
I would like a "ready made" web site which I can change
and add to in an easy to use software program with basic features.
