News: Ralph Story Service Award Presented to Patricia DOrange Martin

D'Orange Martin receives the Ralph Story Award

Patricia D’Orange Martin, Pasadena City College counselor and coordinator of the PCC Veteran’s Resource Center, was recently honored with the prestigious Ralph Story Service Award. This award is presented annually to an outstanding faculty member at PCC who has made significant contributions to the field of education, the college, and the community.

Martin was presented with the award on June 15 at the annual PCC Academic Senate Breakfast.

“I’m so very flattered to be honored by my peers. PCC has been a second family to me for over 23 years,” said D’Orange Martin. “My colleagues have been supportive and caring not only to our students but also to each other. It is a wonderful place to work and grow as a professional. I have been very blessed to be able to work with such great people.”

Martin began her tenure at PCC in 1987 as an adjunct counselor. Currently, she works with student-veterans to help them acclimate to college life through the PCC Veteran’s Center.

“Working with student-veterans has been a highlight in my career at PCC,” she said. “I feel very privileged to be able to help our veterans make that transition back into the academic world. Watching them become more confident in their classes, seeing them becoming more self-assured in their ability to succeed and finding a new hope in their lives is the biggest reward.”
