News: Pasadena City College Trustee Honored by NAACP

Trustee Mann

Dr. Jeanette Mann, Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees member, was recently honored by the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on Sept. 13 at the 27th Ruby McKnight Williams Awards Dinner at the Pasadena Hilton.

Mann was the recipient of the Community Award, which is presented to educators who go beyond the call of duty to improve the quality of life for African Americans.

Among those honored were Betty Ford, Raphael Henderson, James McLamb, Tzeitel Paras-Caracci, Pasadena Fire Chief Calvin Wells, Beverly White, Betty Sandford, Frank Girardot, Jr., Manuel Rustin, Rev. Dr. James Stevenson, City Attorney of Pasadena Michele Bagneris, Jeanette Mann, Kevin McDonald, Damon Zumwalt, and Vincent Pao.

Mann has served as a trustee for the PACCD for 29 years. She is also president of the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) Board. This 21-member board provides guidance for the districts and colleges that constitute the system. It develops and recommends policy, and also reviews and comments on policies developed by other groups, locally elected boards, and the legislature.

Mann has also been awarded the CCCT Fulfilling the Trust Award in recognition of her enduring dedication and service.

In 2008, Mann was also honored as the “Woman of the Year” for the 21st District by state Sen. Jack Scott.
