News: LED Global Lawsuit Against District Dismissed

LED Global, a lighting products manufacturer, has dismissed its lawsuit and its claims against the Pasadena Area Community College District, Trustees and Administration for breach of contract and other causes of action arising from conduct by former college employees Richard van Pelt and Alfred Hutchings.

LED Global has alleged in a separate lawsuit that van Pelt and Hutchings solicited a bribe from the company in return for the award of a contract. The contract was never awarded. The District learned from the District Attorney’s office that van Pelt and Hutchings were being investigated for criminal conduct and not long after, terminated van Pelt and Hutchings based upon substantial evidence of violations of District policies.

The District successfully challenged LED Global’s original and amended complaint against the District, Trustees and Administration. In the face of a motion for sanctions served on LED Global and its attorney for reimbursement of the District’s attorney’s fees, LED Global has dismissed its lawsuit, putting an end to LED Global’s claims against the District, Trustees and Administration. LED is, however, continuing in its case against van Pelt and Hutchings individually for fraud and other wrongful conduct.

The Los Angeles District Attorney is continuing its investigation of former employees van Pelt and Hutchings.
