News: PCC Hosts Noted Author Andrew Lam, April 3 - 4

Pasadena City College’s Spring Visiting Scholar Program welcomes award-winning author, journalist, and radio commentator Andrew Lam on campus April 3 and 4 to discuss his latest collection of short stories and to host a writing workshop.

Lam’s new collection, “Bird of Paradise Lost,” is composed of 13 stories that chronicle the anguish, joy and bravery of those who fled Vietnam and remade themselves in the San Francisco Bay area.

“He’s been here before, and the students just love him,” said Tooktook Thongthiraj, PCC associate professor of English. “He’s known for moving audiences with his words.”

Lam will hold a writing workshop on Wednesday, April 3 in C333, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The workshop is designed to help writers explore a meaningful event or experience, and possibly use their writing in essays for college admission, scholarships, and personal enrichment. This event is free and open to the public.

On Thursday, April 4, Lam will be lecturing in Creveling Lounge, from noon to 1:30 p.m. and again in R122, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both of his lectures are free and open to the public.
