News: UCLA Professor to Discuss Latinos and African Americans in Community Colleges Nov. 10

As part of Pasadena City College’s Jackie Robinson Arts and Humanities Lecture Series, Dr. Patricia Gándara of UCLA will be discussing Latinos and African Americans in community colleges on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in PCC’s Creveling Lounge

Dr. Gándara is a professor of education in the Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences at UCLA. Dr. Gándara was recently named to President Obama's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. She is also a fellow of the American Educational Research Association and recipient of its Presidential Citation at the 2011 AERA annual conference.

Dr. Gándara has written and edited six books and more than 100 articles and reports on educational equity for racial and linguistic minority students, school reform, access to higher education, the education of Latino students, and language policy. Her two most recent books are “The Latino Education Crisis: The Consequences of Failed Social Policies” and “Forbidden Language: English Learners and Restrictive Language Policies.”

This event is funded by the College Diversity Initiative. Admission is free. Parking is available in any student lot for $2. Parking permits are available in lot vending machines.
