PCC in the News News: Photographer Abelardo Morell Named 26th Annual Artist-In-Residence
Photographer Abelardo Morell, who is widely recognized for his dreamlike images created using a self-designed camera obscura, has been named the 26th annual Pasadena City College Artist-In-Residence. There will be a public lecture by the artist on March 19 at 7 p.m. in the Vosloh Forum, with a reception to follow in the Art Gallery. The PCC Visual Arts and Media Studies Division’s Artist-In-Residence program brings nationally and internationally renowned artists for a weeklong stay on campus, where the artists interact closely with students, faculty, and the community. Additionally, Morell will create new work for the college’s art collection, with the assistance of The Huntington Library in San Marino. Morell has been the subject of one-person exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago; the Detroit Institute of Arts; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Museum de Arte Moderno, Sao Paulo, Brazil; and dozens of other museums and galleries worldwide. His work is represented in scores of public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Getty Museum; the National Gallery of Canada; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England.
