News: PCC Closes For Spring Break April 16 through April 20

Pasadena City College will be closed for spring break from April 16 through April 20 in order to reduce operational expenses when classes are not in session. The closure is estimated to save thousands of dollars in utility fees for the week.

“Major savings will be created by not running the central campus heating and air-conditioning system, which is comprised of the chillers, chilled water pumps, cooling towers, air handlers and boilers,” said Dr. Richard van Pelt, PCC vice president of Administrative Service. “By turning off almost all computers, copiers, printers and lights, electricity will be saved.”

PCC and other California community colleges have been forced to absorb significant budget cuts from the state since 2007. PCC alone has absorbed nearly $5 million in cuts since January 2012. The spring break shutdown is one way the college is saving money and preserving student access.

Prior to leaving for the break, PCC staff members and faculty will shutdown all electrical equipment within offices.

Although the campus will be closed for the break, the PCC Campus Police and Safety and Facilities Services?areas will have staff on hand in order to protect and?operate the campus.
