Joe Peron, about to begin his 17th season as Pasadena City College women's basketball head coach, joins five other individuals as the 2012 class of the John Muir High School Alumni Hall of Fame. The Muir HOF ceremony takes place on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. held at the high school's Rufus Mead Auditorium. It is free to the public.

This is the 25th class of the JMHSAHOF, a group made up of 112 distinguished honorees. In the inaugural class of 1988, both PCC alums and brothers, Jackie and Mack Robinson, were inducted and in 1990, it was PCC alumnus and Major League Baseball 400-home run hitter Darrell Evans who was honored. All three are members of both the PCC Sports Hall of Fame and Dick Ratliff Court of Champions. There are several other former PCC sports alumni who also are members of the Muir Hall.

Peron attended Muir from 1978-1981, playing on league title teams in varsity basketball his final two seasons. He was voted the team's best defensive player award as both a sophomore and a senior. In 1983, Peron played as a point guard on the PCC men's basketball state finalist team. He went on to attend Biola University where he played on a national NAIA champion team in 1984 and was an All-American honorable mention.

Peron's job as a head coach at PCC has become a legendary body of work. Peron directed the Lancers to the 2009 state championship, the first team state title in the college's women's sports history. Peron coached six South Coast Conference champion squads as well as lead Pasadena to three state final games in 2004, 2005, and '09. His 390 career coaching victories are the most in PCC basketball history (men or women) and he holds an impressive .790 winning percentage.

"Anytime you can be placed into a group that includes Jackie Robinson, you feel like a part of history," Peron said of his induction. "Muir High was my starting point and PCC is my home. I'm touched to receive this honor."
