News: Casting Call for Great Gatsby at PCC
This fall, the play adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s quintessential American novel, The Great Gatsby, is coming to PCC. The campus production, which will be directed by professor Suzanne Hunt Jenner, is currently seeking talented actors to fill the roles of Fitzgerald’s dynamic characters.
The Great Gatsby is set in Long island during the post-war 1920’s (also known as the Roaring Twenties) in an era defined by prohibition, the advent of Jazz, and the prevalence of flappers. The narrator, a young and affluent businessman named Nick Carraway, is a newcomer to the region and is soon thrust into a complicated web of doomed relationships. The novel’s themes of greed, passion, and the degeneration of the American dream soon become evident as the novel delves into the lives of the characters that cross Carraway’s path.
Auditions for The Great Gatsby will take place on Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28. Interested applicants can attend auditions at the following times: 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. –9 p.m. Actors will be asked to read from sides from the play (sides will be available to view in the theatre office on Aug 22). Please note that selected applicants will need to be available from late August to Mid October, as rehearsals begin on August 31 and the play opens on October 11.
CHARACTERS: JAY GATSBY, DAISY BUCHANAN, NICK CARRAWAY, TOM BUCHANAN, JORDAN BAKER, MYRTLE WILSON, GEORGE WILSON, MEYER WOLFSHIEM, MR. MCKEE, MRS. MCKEE, MRS. MICHAELIS, POLICEMAN, ENSEMBLE DANCERS.
