News: PCC's Browne Earns Bronze Medal At Pan Am Junior Championships

Pasadena City College women's track and field sprinter Omhunique Browne earned a bronze medal representing St. Kitts and Nevis at the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships held in Medellin, Columbia August 23-25.

Browne, a double CCCAA state champion for the Lancers earlier this year, raced a 23.48 seconds time to take third place and the bronze in the 200 meters event. She beat out the United States' top finisher Ana Holland, who took fourth at 23.61. Browne had won her qualifying heat with a faster 23.44 mark.

The age 19-and-under Pan Am Juniors also featured Browne's fifth place finals finish in the 100 with a time of 11.51. Browne earned St. Kitts and Nevis, an island country in the Caribbean, its only medal at the games. Browne is able to compete for St. Kitts and Nevis because her father was born there. She grew up and was raised in San Marino.

Browne, the PCC 2012-13 Women's Athlete of the Year, set school records in the 100 and 200 and was the national leader in the two events for community colleges in her freshman Lancers season. She was guided this past season by PCC head coach is Larry Wade.
