News: Pasadena City College Resolves Payment Delays To Student Veterans

September 16, 2013 - Pasadena City College (PCC) is one of the few community colleges in the country that has a pro-active case model to assist veterans as they readjust to civilian life. PCC is 1 of 7 schools in the country selected by the Department of Veteran Affairs to have an on campus full-time vocational rehabilitation counselor for veterans.  The Military Times has bestowed upon PCC the highest ranking of any community college in California and the school is ranked eighth in the nation as one of the  “veterans friendly 2-year colleges”.

PCC serves more than 750 veterans at its Veteran’s Resource Center (VRC) and that number is steadily rising.  The VRC offers academic, psychological and financial assistance to veterans.  In an effort to ensure that all student veterans have access to necessary services and benefits, the Administration responded immediately to delays in the certification process of our student veterans.  The Administration added additional staff members to prevent further delays and requested assistance from the PCC Foundation to make emergency funds available for any affected student veteran.

Patty D’Orange Martin, Coordinator of the Veterans Resource Center, met with student veterans today, and also communicated through mass email, the availability of immediate financial assistance for:  utilities, housing, food, medical/dental, transportation, child care, gas and books for any impacted student.  Dr. Robert Bell, Senior Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs, stated that “he is closely monitoring the process and all enrollment fees due to PCC will be processed without delay”.  Bell states that any student who needs assistance should not hesitate to contact his office.
