News: Pasadena City College Hosts 2013 Scholarship Awards Ceremony
Pasadena, Calif., - Pasadena City College Foundation will host its Scholarship and Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Westin Hotel, Pasadena. For the first time, donors who established named scholarships will get a chance to meet the student who receives the scholarship. Approximately 600 people are anticipated to attend.
Bobbi Abram, Executive Director of the PCC Foundation said, “Students attending know that they have received a scholarship, but they don’t know what scholarship they have received or how much funding is behind that particular scholarship. We anticipate a big celebration because we are awarding about a quarter of a million dollars.”
The scholarship application is a competitive process. Each scholarship application was reviewed by a committee of community members, college faculty and staff and Foundation Board members. There will be 296 scholarship recipients and families on hand to bring energy to this first-time event.
Pasadena City College has been branded an accessible, affordable college, offering high quality education that encourages, supports and facilitates student learning and success. Nearly 70% of the student body receives some type of financial aid to be able to attend.
Attendants will hear from the college’s President/Superintendent Dr. Mark W. Rocha. The event will also feature speeches from three students who received the top reviewer’s scores. Student Scholars Araz Ayati, Bethany Winkler and Andres Meraz will share part of their academic and personal stories with scholars, guests, and families.
PCC Board of Trustees, scholarship reviewers, and PCC administration will be on hand to help present the awards to the student scholars. Pasadena City College is in the fall semester of its 90th year. This event has been established to bring attention to and congratulate PCC’s finest students.
