News: PCC Alum Ryan McKinny To Appear In Concert At Westerbeck Recital Hall

Pasadena, Calif., - The Pamela L. Girard Guest Artist/Master Class Series presents Pasadena City College Alumnus Ryan McKinny, in concert on Friday, February 28, 2014, 8pm, Westerbeck Recital Hall, Center for the Arts, Room 140.  McKinny, will appear in recital with Robert Thies on piano.

McKinny, a bass-baritone, studied at the Julliard School of Music.  He made his Metropolitan Opera debut during the 2011-2012 season as Lieutenant Ratcliffe in Billy Budd.  The first recipient of the Birgit Nilsson prize, McKinny has continued to receive recognition for his "elegant and articulate" vocalism as described by the Orange County Register and for his voice that "drips with gold," according to Opera News.  

McKinny is a guest artist of The Pamela L. Girard Master Class Series, a memorial created in memory of Pamela Girard who loved the PCC Music Department and was a member of the Concert Choir.  The Pamela L. Girard Master Class Series sponsors musicians of international stature for a two to four day visit to provide master classes and a recital each year.  The series is made possible by a generous donation from Christopher Daniels, the son of Pamela L.
