News: Men's Basketball Season Ends In Loss To State No. 16 ELAC

Much like the way the Pasadena City College men's basketball team played Friday, the Lancers couldn't shake their inconsistent ways. The Lancers again played one half of competitive, high level basketball only to play the second 20 minutes like they forgot how they kept the game close in the first place.

PCC trailed state No. 16-ranked East Los Angeles College by just two points, 27-25, by halftime, then saw the hosts run away with the things in a 68-53 defeat that closed out the 2012-13 season for the Lancers. Pasadena finished at 8-18 overall and a rough 4-9 in the South Coast Conference.

The Lancers never once won two straight games, going 0-8 after victories, including this loss. Six of the team's losses were by margins of five or less points and and two more were defeats decided in overtime.

The Huskies ran their record to 20-7, finished second in the SCC North Division at 9-4, and will likely earn a high seed when the postseason playoff spots are announced next week. ELAC forward and conference MVP candidate Jaree Crawford scored 19 of his game-high 22 points in the second half.

For PCC, frosh guard Jeffrey Dockett scored 16 points and dished out seven assists. Sophomore forward Marquise Tolson added eight points while sophomore guard Mike Swanegan closed his last game playing for his father, head coach Michael Swanegan, by scoring seven points. The younger Swanegan still led the Lancers in scoring average this season at 15.6 points per game and was the conference leader in 3-point baskets with 84.

"In so many games, we were right with some of the best teams," the elder Swanegan said. "We just couldn't sustain a full 40 minutes on most nights despite the presence of sophomores in the lineup. So we took a step back this season, but that means we go right back to work and bring in new talent next year."
