News: Women's Basketball Seeded No. 6, Hosts No. 11 Irvine Valley, Saturday, Mar. 2

Fresh off a 22-6 regular season and a third place finish in the South Coast Conference, the Pasadena City College women's basketball team received the No. 6 seed and will host No. 11 Irvine Valley in Round 2 of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Lancers and Lasers, from the Orange Empire Conference, will meet Saturday, March 2 in a 7 p.m. tip-off at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

Pasadena places its perfect playoff record at its home gym on the line at 18-0. PCC is 2-0 in its playoff history v. Irvine Valley. The Lancers posted their largest margin ever in a playoff win against visiting IVC in 2003 when they beat the Lasers, 94-54. They also met in 2010 with PCC winning, 76-55. Both games were played at the HP-Gym.

Irvine Valley (20-10) finished in a tie for second place in the OEC with Riverside City College. PCC and IVC met previously in the second game of the season when the Lancers eeked out a 47-46 victory over Irvine Valley in the second round of PCC's season-opening Veteran's Classic Tournament.

In that contest, PCC reserve center Briana Simmons came through with a basket with 3:40 remaining that gave the Lancers the lead for good at 45-44. Sophomore guard Stella Ghazarian led the Lancers with 11 points while Irvine Valley was paced by 13 points from Dominique Santos.

The Lancers are in Bracket No. 4 of the 18-team regionals and if they defeat IVC, they will advance to Round 3 to face the winner of the No. 3 Mt. San Jacinto v. No. 14 Cuesta matchup (March 1) on Wednesday, March 6.
