News: Women's Trackster Brown Runs State's 2nd Fastest 200 At UNLV Invitational
Pasadena City College women's track frosh sprinter Omhunique Brown raced the second fastest 200 meters time in the state this season with her 24.36 seconds mark at the UNLV Invitational held March 1-2 in Las Vegas.
Brown's event victory is just .20 behind Laney College's Khadija Suleman, whose 24.16 leads the state. Brown (pictured) is a product of San Marino High.
Freshman Kia Smith (Monrovia High) also excelled at the Nevada event as she raced the fourth fastest state mark at 15.11 seconds despite finishing sixth overall. Smith competed against 4-year university racers as did all of the Lancers' athletes.
Sophomore Diane Lombardi (Crescenta Valley) posted the California Community Colleges' seventh best mark to date in the 1,500 meters at 4:58.01 in taking second place in her event.
Breanna Clark placed fourth in the 100 dash (12.58) while Lombardi was eighth in the 800 (2:26.27). Rossha Harris tossed a 117-2 feet throw to take ninth in the javelin. She is sixth in the state (118-6) in the event.
Editor's Note--addition to release--The Lancers' 4x100 meter relay (47.78) and 4x400 relay (3:56.79) both recorded the second fastest times in the state this year at the UNLV event.
The Lancers won five events at the UNLV Invitational, including Christian White's brilliant 48.64 second time to win the 400 meters. White raced the sixth fastest time in the state this season.
Tevin Polk (Muir High) won the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, 6 inches, good enough for a tie for fifth in the state. Te'von Mitchell (Dorsey) took first place in the 110-hurdles with a mark of 15.65 while Kevin Cano (Montebello High) won the 3,000-steeplechase on the state's third fastest time of 9:56.04. PCC's other victory was in the triple jump by Farhaad Zinnamon at 44-7.5 (14th in California).
Caleb Wood took fourth in the discus at 139-9 and fifth in the javelin (166-11). Derrick Shepherd (Marshall Fundamental) was second in the 100 at 11.02 while Aaron Harris took sixth in the 800 meters (1:59.65). Chineek Favors was third in the 200 meters (22.10). Khaleel Green placed second in the 400 hurdles at 57.56 seconds.
Head coach Larry Wade and distance coach Armand Crespo will bring the PCC track and field teams to the Ben Brown Invitational Friday-Saturday, March 8-9 at Cal State Fullerton.
